Extension of Impact Fee moratorium to be considered

County commissioners have agreed to allow staff to move forward on drafting an ordinance extending the moratorium on both residential and commercial impact fees. The moratorium is set to expire Feb. 1 and the proposal is to extend it until Sept. 30, 2012, as well. The moratorium covers transportation, fire and park impact fees, but not school impact fees. The commission will consider the ordinance in January. As of early December, $7.37 million of fees had been waived in commercial construction and $1.53 million for residential construction, according to county documents. County staff also said impact fees had been waived for new projects valued at about $90 million, representing almost 800,000 square feet of commercial space. In addition, impact fees had been waived for 380 residential units. Read the full story in the Osceola News Gazette.
